María María Acha-Kutscher is a visual artist born in Lima, Peru, in 1968. She moved to Madrid in 2001 and has since been involved in the independent art scene, participating in debates on the city's cultural policies. She currently co-directs the curatorial project Antimuseo and is the editor of the CIIA's independent magazine. Women are the central axis of her artistic work, in which she focuses on history, the struggle for emancipation and equality, and the cultural construction of the feminine. María María organizes her work into long-term projects, each with its own language and methodology. She defines herself as a feminist artist due to the political dimension of her work, which has a dual function: to be an artistic product and to constitute an instrument that can meet a social need and contribute to political transformations. One of her best-known projects is "Women and Work," in which she compiled historical and contemporary images of women at work to highlight their role and contribution to society, as well as to address gender inequality in the workplace. Another of her series, "Indignadas," documents protest movements around the world, highlighting the presence and role of women in the fight for social justice and equality. María María Acha-Kutscher's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums around the world, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid and the Museo de Arte de Lima in Peru. Additionally, her work has been featured at international art fairs, and she is represented by the ADN gallery in Barcelona.
