Marwan Rechmaoui is a Lebanese artist born in Beirut in 1964, known for his sculpture and installation work. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States. Rechmaoui's style is characterized by his ability to explore social and political themes through the creation of works that address the history and culture of his native Lebanon. His work focuses on the creation of abstract maps and topographies, using materials such as rubber, asphalt, and neon, to explore the relationship between urban spaces and cultural identity. Rechmaoui has received numerous awards and recognition throughout his career, including the Abraaj Capital Art Prize in 2011 and Lebanon’s prestigious Prix National du Jeune Artiste in 2000. He has also been included in major international exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale in 2015 and the Istanbul Biennial in 2011.
