Pablo Mercado (Antequera, 1983) is a multidisciplinary artist who explores the fluidity of memory and identity through painting, drawing, installation, and new media. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville. He furthered his training at the Accademia di Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci in Perugia, Italy, and earned a Master's degree in Art, Creation, and Research from the Complutense University of Madrid. He lived in Berlin for six years, where he actively participated in its contemporary cultural scene and used the city as a base to develop artistic projects in Europe, America, and Asia. Since 2018, he has lived and worked in Spain, combining his artistic practice with doctoral studies at the University of Malaga. He is currently conducting a research stay at the University of Lisbon as part of the University of Malaga's PhD Program, exploring memory and its relationship with artistic creation. He also collaborates closely with Dr. Estela Castilla on the Neuropsicoartes II project, part of the Faculty of Psychology.
Her work, inspired by neuropsychology, philosophy, and literature, explores how memories can be deconstructed and reconstructed to generate new identities. In projects such as Leteo (2022), created in collaboration with Dr. Diana López Barroso of the UMA Medical Research Center, she uses neuroimaging to create an installation about the storage of memories. In the series The Same River Twice (2016), developed in Taiwan, she explored the flow of memory through drawings with water residue from the Tzengwen River, connecting organic processes with visual metaphors.
He has exhibited in national and international institutions and galleries, such as the Gas Natural Fenosa Museum of Contemporary Art (A Coruña), the Antequera Municipal Museum, and venues in Berlin, Japan, and Taiwan. He has participated in artist residencies in Japan, South Korea, Mexico, and the Netherlands, and has given lectures at institutions such as Yeungnam University (South Korea) and ArtEZ Fine Art College (Netherlands).
Currently, he continues to explore the boundaries between art, science, and philosophy, combining conceptual approaches and innovative techniques that invite viewers to reflect on the mutable nature of human experience.
