Richard Serra was a U.S. artist (California, United States, 1938–New York, United States, 2024), recognized for his monumental steel sculptures. His work transformed the relationship between sculpture, space, architecture, and the viewer’s physical experience, especially through large-scale pieces conceived for specific sites.

His work is known for the use of industrial materials, particularly weathering steel, lead, and rubber, and for its attention to weight, balance, gravity, and the movement of the body through space. Through curved walls, tilted plates, ellipses, and spirals, Serra created works that are physically entered, crossed, and experienced.

His work is part of collections such as MoMA, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the National Gallery of Art, SFMOMA, and the Saint Louis Art Museum. He presented exhibitions in institutions such as MoMA, Centre Pompidou, Museo Reina Sofía, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Grand Palais in Paris, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, SFMOMA, and The Menil Collection. He also took part in documenta and the Venice Biennale.
