MATERIALS AND CARE

 Recommendations for proper conservation of works of art:

  • Keep artwork away from direct sunlight and any other heat sources (heating, air conditioning, etc.). Avoid hanging artwork near areas with smoke and pollution (such as fireplaces or kitchens). We recommend protecting your artwork with a glass frame.

Avoid sudden temperature changes. It is recommended to store paintings in areas with a room temperature of 18-20°C and 50% relative humidity.

If you want to permanently illuminate the work, we recommend using cold light sources. Use a soft duster for periodic cleaning. Never use household cleaners.
SHIPPING AND RETURNS

Shipping usually takes around 7 days. Shipping costs are determined based on the gallery's location and the size of the artwork. Packaging material costs are included.

Purchases made through Arte Global’s website (www.arteglobal.es) can be canceled within 24 hours. After this period, the purchase is considered final.

Information about the work

Eduardo Arroyo (Madrid, 1937–2018) was a painter, sculptor, illustrator, engraver, stage designer, narrator, and essayist. In the 1960s, he began his career as a figurative painter, in an artistic context dominated by abstraction and expressionism, a style he maintained for the rest of his career. One of the recurring themes in his work was the demystification of established figures of power. At first glance, this print appears to be a simple portrait of a young woman, in Arroyo's characteristic aesthetic style. However, the title and the word that appears on the young woman's face "Europa" refer to the multiple representations of the European continent, traditionally portrayed as a beautiful woman. Here, the artist revisits that allegory to update and adapt it to current times.

Eduardo Arroyo was a Spanish artist. He was born in Madrid in 1937 and died in the same city in 2018. He studied journalism and, in 1958, moved to Paris. There, he came into contact with Spanish exile groups and formed a critical view of Franco’s regime. His work is linked to narrative figuration and to a critical figurative style close to Pop Art, Dadaism, and Surrealism.

Through painting, drawing, sculpture, prints, stage design, posters, and writing, Arroyo created a direct, ironic, and narrative style. His work dealt with politics, history, censorship, Spanish culture, literature, and sport, especially boxing. During Franco’s regime, part of his work was censored, and he had little presence in Spain until the democratic transition.

His work is part of collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía, IVAM, MACBA, ARTIUM Museoa, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, Museo Patio Herreriano, Centre Pompidou, Fondation Maeght, the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, and the Banco de España Collection. His confirmed awards include the National Prize for Visual Arts in 1982, his appointment as Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France in 1983, the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2000, and the ABC Cultural & Ámbito Cultural Award in 2016.
