MATERIALS AND CARE

 Recommendations for proper conservation of works of art:

  • Keep artwork away from direct sunlight and any other heat sources (heating, air conditioning, etc.). Avoid hanging artwork near areas with smoke and pollution (such as fireplaces or kitchens). We recommend protecting your artwork with a glass frame.

Avoid sudden temperature changes. It is recommended to store paintings in areas with a room temperature of 18-20°C and 50% relative humidity.

If you want to permanently illuminate the work, we recommend using cold light sources. Use a soft duster for periodic cleaning. Never use household cleaners.
SHIPPING AND RETURNS

Shipping usually takes around 7 days. Shipping costs are determined based on the gallery's location and the size of the artwork. Packaging material costs are included.

Purchases made through Arte Global’s website (www.arteglobal.es) can be canceled within 24 hours. After this period, the purchase is considered final.

Information about the work

Zumaya is one of the last creations by the Spanish painter Menchu Gal (Guipúzcoa, 1919 – 2008), created a year before her death in 2008. Recognized as one of the most prominent figures of post-war Spanish art, Gal developed a highly personal approach to the landscape genre, focusing on the expressive use of color, light, and shadow. Her depictions of La Mancha—a region deeply linked to her roots—became one of her hallmarks. In her compositions, vibrant chromaticism unfolds like a visual symphony that awakens an almost sensorial experience in the viewer, endowing the landscape with a poetic and emotional quality that is difficult to match.

Menchu Gal was a Spanish artist (Irún, Spain, 1919–San Sebastián, Spain, 2008), linked to the renewal of postwar Spanish painting. She began her training in Irún with Gaspar Montes Iturrioz and, at a very young age, travelled to Paris, where she took classes with Amédée Ozenfant and discovered the work of Henri Matisse and Fauvism. In the early 1940s, she settled in Madrid, where she became part of the circle of the Escuela de Madrid and attended classes at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts.

Her painting is known for its expressive use of color, light, and a personal view of landscape, especially that of her native region and other Spanish territories. She also worked with portraiture, still life, and urban scenes.

Her work is part of collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, the Banco de España Collection, and Irún City Council. She presented exhibitions in institutions such as Museo San Telmo, Museo de Navarra, IVAM, Centro Cultural Conde Duque, and Espacio Cultural Serrería Belga. Her awards include the National Painting Prize in 1959, which she received as the first woman to be awarded this distinction, and the Gold Medal of Gipuzkoa in 2005.
